What makes a farmer florist different than a traditional wedding florist?

1

A farmer florist is a floral designer who grows some or all of the flowers used in their work. We use unique flower varieties that may not be available on the wholesale market or are only available from our farm (because we bred them). We also depend on flower seasonality, with a changing array of flowers that naturally bloom across our growing year which makes our designs feel perfectly matched to the season. We also tend to forage for wild material, pulling in interesting foliage, berries and flowers that appear in our landscape. Having access to a flower field allows us to be highly selective in our flower and color choices, to custom plant varieties for specific client events and to offer the freshest wedding flowers available.

Where can I find local wedding flowers near Raleigh, Durham, or Chapel Hill?

2

Locally grown wedding flowers are best straight from a local flower farm. Having a field of flowers in Pittsboro allows us to select the best varieties, range of colors and flower freshness for gorgeous wedding flower designs. We serve wedding venues in the greater Triangle area including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Pittsboro and Sanford. But our pickup wedding flowers can be picked up at our farm and transported to wedding venues anywhere.

Pretty much - We grow in high tunnels that allow us to have wedding flowers available from March - November, and sometimes longer depending upon the weather. Fresh cut greenery is available year round. North Carolina’s peak wedding seasons of spring and fall coincide perfectly with our peak growing periods

What’s the difference between full service wedding flowers and a la carte wedding flowers?

Our full service wedding flowers includes comprehensive floral planning, large scale custom designs like arbors, arches, staircases or freeform arrangements. These packages include detailed proposals and design consultations, custom color palettes as well as all day-of logistics like delivery, setup, and teardown. Our a la carte wedding flowers is a curated menu of the most popular wedding flower options like bridal bouquets, bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, arrangements, bud vases, and even DIY buckets, all available in four seasonal color stories. A la carte flowers can be picked up at our farm or delivered to wedding venues in our Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill service areas.

Can a wedding florist grow flowers specifically for my wedding?

3

Traditional wedding florists cannot as they work from a retail shop. But a farmer florist, like Hen House Flowers, is both a floral designer and a flower grower. We have full control over the flower varieties and colors to use in our floral designs because we grow them on our land. We custom plant for many of our clients who book their wedding date with us at least 6 months in advance.

Are locally grown wedding flowers available year round in North Carolina?

4

Can I get some of my wedding flowers designed and DIY the rest?

Yes. Our Design + DIY wedding flower option lets you choose which pieces you want us to design and which ones you’d like to tackle. With a minimum of $1,000 in designed florals like bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and arrangements, you can order bulk flower buckets to DIY some of your wedding flowers without the pressure, time crunch and overwhelm of doing it all.

How much do wedding flowers cost in the Raleigh-Durham area?

While it’s frustrating to hear ‘it depends’, it’s really true for custom florals where design time and flower quantities can vary wildly. But for wedding flower basics like bouquets, boutonnieres, and arrangements, those prices are fairly consistent and can be estimated online with our Flower Plan Builder. This handy online tool lets you choose the pieces to include in your wedding flower package and experiment with different options to see what fits in your wedding flower budget.

How far in advance should I book my wedding florist?

Hen House Flowers is the wedding flower design studio at Buck Naked Flower Farm in Pittsboro, NC. I’m a designer with 30 years of horticultural experience who grows most of the flowers used in my wedding work. Our remarkable wedding flower designs feel different than traditional florists and are often described as garden-inspired, organic and sophisticated without being overly formal or stuffy. We prize seasonality in both the colors and flower varieties we choose. And design like nature does - with air, movement and a bit of whimsy.

Who is Hen House Flowers?

We work with engaged couples who are less than 12 months from their wedding date. The sweet spot is 6-10 months in advance, which gives us enough time to hold design meetings, custom plant flowers or colors in your palette, order unique containers and coordinate with your full vendor team. But as a flower farm, we can often fill smaller flower orders for intimate events like elopements if our schedule permits. We limit our focus and flowers to a select number of events per weekend and peak seasons like May and October are often booked out months in advance.
